Artist Statement

Rebecca Sheardown is a versatile Western Australian artist. Since graduating in 1992 from Edith Cowan University with a BA in Visual Arts, she has explored all types of mediums including printmaking, installation, calligraphy and jewellery whilst being actively involved in the Western Australian arts sector.

Rebecca spends time in her studio exploring her aesthetic diversities, revealing the magic hidden in designs discovered by chance. Her work is driven by a desire to animate that magic.

This includes a fascination for the environment and its infinite biological forms and is inspired to create biomorphic artworks that celebrate the beauty of geometry in the natural world.

'Quest for Knowledge'

‘Breathing Zone' is described by a quote from Lee Iacocca, CEO/Chairman, Chrysler Corporation, 1979-1992. "We've got to pause and ask ourselves: How much clean air do we need?"  Breathing Zone' shows a cubic space of pure air suspended in its fragile existence located in suburbia; fighting selflessly to clean our foul air.
